Check out the wide variety of resources and activities at Texas State, San Marcos, and the surrounding community!  You can get some tutoring for Accounting at the Student Learning Assistance Center then join a group like the Wildlife Society or TXST D&D Guild.  Or have the Attorney for Students review your new apartment lease to see if it's right for you before heading out to Plaza Park off downtown San Marcos for the annual Summer in the Park music series.

    Free drop-in math tutoring and academic support in a comfortable, personalized environment.  Computers are also available for general research and school use.

    Free walk-in tutoring and study center that covers a wide range of subjects including Accounting, Biology, Economics, Chemistry, Philosophy, Mathematics, Finance, and more.

    Veterans have access to a designated study room and may qualify for veteran oriented tutoring services.

    Our library offers students so many resources for their research and educational needs. The library provides printed volumes and electronic database resources as well as research librarians to help in a variety of subject matters.  Alkek Library also hosts computer labs, the YouStar Studio for video creation, the Wittliff Collection, and other resources.

    Qualified students with documented disabilities are provided a variety of services which may include classroom accommodations, adaptive computer equipment, disability management counseling, and more.  ODS also hosts events and lectures on campus as well as Bobcat’s CREW: Creating Readiness and Employability for Work, a dialogue group supporting career exploration and cultivating interpersonal skills.

    If you’re having difficulty coping with mental health issues such as stress, depression, or loss, the Counseling Center offers individual, group, and couples counseling along with crisis response and consultation.  They also provide links and referrals to community resources as well as resources for LGBTQIA, DREAMERS, and veteran students.

    A variety of healthcare services are available for students, including medical, laboratory, digital radiography, and pharmacy services.  The center offers affordable prices for students and health insurance coverage is not needed to receive care.

    Through a partnership with Hays County Food Bank, TXST offers a free food pantry resource for students.

    Join a student organization to meet other students that share your interests.  From academic and professional to cultural or recreational, there’s a club for you!  These are just a few examples of the wide variety of organizations you can join:  Medical Explorers, Hide and Seek Club, Hombres Unidos, Soccer Club, Advertising Club, and the TXST Dungeons & Dragons Guild.

    Veterans transitioning into the university environment can find academic and social support at TXST through tutoring, peer guides and events like the Veterans Monthly Lunches.

     

    Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center: https://www.hcwc.org/

    Victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse can receive help through counseling, advocacy, shelter, and more.  All services are free and confidential to residents of Hays and Caldwell counties at several locations in the area; walk-ins are welcome during normal hours of operation.

     

  • Attorney for Students:  https://attorney.dos.txstate.edu/

    Currently enrolled students get free legal counseling services for many issues including renting and lease agreements, criminal law, LGBTQIA rights, and immigration.

     

    Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center:  https://www.hcwc.org/

    Victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse can receive help through counseling, shelter, and legal services and advocacy.   Legal advocates can accompany clients to legal proceedings, court hearings, appointments with law enforcement, and to file a police report.  All services are free and confidential to residents of Hays and Caldwell counties at several locations in the area; walk-ins are welcome during normal hours of operation.

    The art exhibitions at Texas State Galleries are open to the public with no fee for admission.  Exhibitions can include installations from renowned artists, alumni and student juried shows,  and the MFA and BFA thesis showcases.

    Explore a variety of music and theatre events such as plays, operas, symphonies, faculty recitals, guest musician concerts, and more.

     

    The Wittliff Collections:  https://www.thewittliffcollections.txstate.edu/

    The Wittliff preserves and shares the “legacies of artists who define Southwestern culture.”  Their collections include Southwestern Writers and Southwestern and Mexican Photography as well as the Texas Music and Lonesome Dove collections.  You can also view curated online exhibitions from their Digital Collections, such as “Homegrown: Austin Music Posters 1967 – 1982.”

    Rent a Kayak at the Outdoor Center to explore the river, join an intramural sports team, test your strength on a climbing wall, or just go camping at the University camp site – TXST offers a variety of recreation options.  Some fees or exclusions may apply.

    Learn about the history, habitat, endangered species, cultural resources, and ongoing stewardship of Spring Lake.  Students and guests can learn about these aspects of Spring Lake and the San Marcos River though glass bottom boat tours, paddling tours, boardwalks, festivals, and other exciting events.

    As 1 in 7 Hays County residents is food insecure, the Hays County Food Bank provides food to eligible clients.  They also host Food Wise cooking classes and recipes for affordable and healthy meals.  There are also opportunities to volunteer time or money or even donate food through Amazon.com.

    Discover public, animal, environmental, and public safety volunteer service opportunities across San Marcos.  Programs include library computer classes, riding along with the San Marcos Fire Department, and volunteering time or donations to the Blue Santa program.

     

    The Calaboose African American History Museum: http://www.toursanmarcos.com/attractions/arts/calaboose.html

    This museum explores the lives of early African Americans in our city and state, and includes exhibits relating to Tuskegee Airmen, WWII Military and USO, Civil Rights, Ku Klux Klan, and memorabilia from locally born jazz artist Eddie Durham, whose park is nearby. 

     

    San Marcos River Foundation:  https://sanmarcosriver.org/

    The River Foundation aims to help protect and preserve the San Marcos River.  Volunteers are needed for river cleanup events, water quality monitoring, greenbelt trail building and maintenance, and endangered species propagation and research.
