There are a lot of topics that can be discussed in a meeting with a University Advising Center Academic Advisor! Remember, meetings aren't restricted to just one topic. In fact, most meetings will cover multiple topics per session. We encourage you to bring a list of everything you want to learn during your meeting. If we can't do it all in one session, we'll schedule a follow-up or continue through email when appropriate.

In addition to meeting with Exploratory and Pre-business majors, we meet with students from all majors at Texas State who are no longer confident in their current major designation and want to explore options in other colleges. These special one-hour major exploration sessions are a highly collaborative investigation of a student's interests, motivations, concerns, strengths, and relevant major options.

To schedule an appointment, call our center at 512.245.2218 or visit our desk in THH 120 and request to schedule an advising appointment with a University Advising Center Academic Advisor.

Drop-in Q&A

Drop-in Q&A is a great resource for simple questions that you feel don’t require a full appointment or even to find out if you need an appointment. Drop-in Q&A is a great tool to help students identify the correct resource for the situation they are currently in. It's quick, efficient, and convenient.

    • What does this email mean?
    • How do I get this hold removed?
    • Where can I get Math tutoring?
    • How do I ask my instructor for an extension on an assignment?
    • Should I drop this course?
    • I have to miss class for a few weeks, what do I need to do?
    • How do I get involved in undergraduate research?
    • Where do I go for help getting headshots for LinkedIn?
    • What degree type do I enter to generate a what-if audit for [major]?

Exploratory, Pre-business, and major exploring students can access our drop-in Q&A services by calling our center (512.245.2218) and asking to speak with an on-call advisor. If you're on campus and want to chat with someone in-person, you can drop by our front desk in THH 120 and ask to speak with the on-call advisor in person, as well.

"Ask an Advisor!" Email Form

The "Ask an Advisor!" email form is similar to the Drop-in Q&A service. It's a great option when you don't have time to wait for a return phone call and don’t need immediate assistance. It’s especially useful for help identifying relevant web information for university services and events, or need a written response that you can reference later. It also works well for any other non-appointment questions like those described above. Most forms receive a response within one business day.
